Anti-quota stir gathers momentum at varsity

THE ANTI-QUOTA stir is gaining impetus at the Lucknow University. On the second successive day, students, cutting across all castes, converged near Saraswati Pratima and flayed the Central Government for destroying their future by introducing reservation. They alleged Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh was doing this for the sake of vote bank.

On the second successive day, students, cutting across all castes, converged near Saraswati Pratima and flayed the Central Government for destroying their future by introducing reservation. They alleged Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh was doing this for the sake of vote bank.

According to them, talent of this country was already suffering a serious jolt because of 50 pc quota in university seats. And introduction of reservations in IITs and IIMs would worsen the situation of higher education in the country.

They argued that mere reservation would not serve the purpose of students belonging to backward classes. They suggested the government should give more facilities to them.

Research scholars of Central Drug Research Institute and Industrial and Toxicological Research Centre have decided to support the ongoing protest against the proposed reservations bill in the name of ‘youth for equality’. The researchers said their protest would be peaceful and the work in the laboratories would not be hampered in any way.
