The suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorist was on Tuesday sentenced to life imprisonment by a Delhi court.

Additional sessions judge (ASJ) Rajender Kumar Shastri handed down the life term to Shehzad for killing decorated police officer inspector MC Sharma and injuring two other cops.

A number of people gathered at Shehzad's house near Tedhia mosque here and expressed solidarity with his family.

National general secretary of Ulema Council, Tahir Madni, said that he was not happy with the court's judgement and will fight against it.

"We will fight against the judgement on two fronts--one in court and the other in people's court by raking the issue in coming Lok Sabha polls," he said.

Samajwadi Party MLA from Nizamabad, Alambadi said that if Shehzad was guilty he should have been given death penalty in place of life sentence.
