HI secretary general Narinder Batra told Hindustan Times that the legal verdict announced on Friday was only against the 'manner' in which IHF was de-recognised and that HI is still the apex governing body with all the due affiliations.

Training his gun on IHF president KPS Gill, Batra quelled speculations of an IHF revival.

"An IHF revival based on the court’s verdict condemning the manner in which it was de-recognised in 2008 is absurd. IHF is a finished body and it is Hockey India that has the rightful affiliations from Indian Olympic Association, Asian Hockey Federation and International Hockey Federation (FIH)," he said.

IHF President KPS Gill, had earlier said that the court’s verdict was a decision against injustice and criticized HI for its conduct. Batra on his part, lashed out saying Gill, who is a member of Hockey Delhi, should not harbour hopes of a comeback through IHF.

"Let him confront us face-to-face and I will answer any allegation that he may make," he said and added that it was HI and not IHF, which was the first to put its balance sheet on the web for public scrutiny.

However, HI’s reputation has come under some cloud since it repeatedly postponed elections despite FIH directives. Batra assured, however, that the same would be conducted by late June or in early July.

"We remain committed to a fair and free election. We will announce the date (for elections) in a day or two."

Gill, however, termed the move by the ad-hoc body as meaningless.

"I’m told there are many court cases against the HI. They have also been de-recognised by the govt."
