Beauty Basic 2004: The mood's all red & blue
For years now, make-up experts have warned us that blue eye-shadow with fire-engine red lip gloss is a complete no-no. But then, when make-up pro Cory Wallia wields the brush, the eternal notion, so far considered a faux pas, becomes a trend.
For years now, make-up experts have warned us that blue eye-shadow with fire-engine red lip gloss is a complete no-no. But then, when make-up pro Cory Wallia wields the brush, the eternal notion, so far considered a faux pas, becomes a trend. In fact, Wallia demonstrated as much, working wonders on Viveka Babaji, at the ongoing Lakme India Fashion Week.
"Make-up rules are meant to be broken," says Wallia. "I have used turquoise blue on the eyes and glossy red on the lips, and this combination works very well on Viveka. The fact that she is wearing a red top and has red highlights in her hair only adds to the appeal."
But then, even if you don't own a sexy red off the shoulder top (a rage this season) like Viveka or don't have highlighted hair, this startling colour combo can work for you. Just follow Wallia's guidelines. "Go for reds that are mixed with yellows and browns, or just mix the colours yourself. Take a bright red lipstick and tone it down with a touch of brown," he says.
Also, instead of stark blue, opt for a blue eye-shadow that has yellow undertones. "I'd also recommend a blue one with a hint of green, the best option for the Indian complexion," sums up Wallia.
