Admitted to the district hospital, he was unable to walk after Tuesday’s public beating.

Earlier in Delhi, NCM member Harcharan Singh Josh, who chaired a meeting with his colleagues, said the commission believed Aurangzeb was treated like an “animal and a slave” by the policemen.

“We are writing to the Bihar chief secretary to send us a report immediately about the incident. The police acted brutally there,” Josh said after the meeting, attended by NCM members Z. Hasan and M.D. Bangalee.

The National Human Rights Commission has already issued notices to the Bihar police.

After the incident was beamed on TV screens across the country, authorities in Bihar ordered suspension of Assistant Sub-Inspector L.B. Singh who was shown dragging Aurangzeb tied to his motorcycle several metres down the street.

Constable Ramchandra Rai, who tied Aurangzeb by his foot to the motorcycle, has also been suspended. Both the policemen have been transferred to Shiekhpura District.

According to Bhagalpur Deputy Superintendent of Police Anjani Kumar, a first information report (FIR) was lodged against the two policemen under section 341, 323 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. Earlier, two FIRs bearing No 212/07 and 213/07, one in connection with chain-snatching and other in connection with the public thrashing of Aurangzeb, were lodged with the Nathanagar police station.
