Bifurcate Thane district by August 15, says BJP unit
The Thane unit of the BJP has threatened to launch an agitation if its demand of bifurcating the district by August 15 is not acted upon by the state government.
The Thane unit of the BJP has threatened to launch an agitation if its demand of bifurcating the district by August 15 is not acted upon by the state government.
This ultimatum was given at a press conference by the party MLA and former president and MP Chintaman Wanga on Tuesday. Party state vice-president Manisha Chowdhary and others were also present.
On Monday, BJP state president Sudhir Mungantiwar held a meeting with the party office-bearers, in which the issue of bifurcation of Thane district was also discussed.
Wanga said the government should announce the bifurcation without any delay. He alleged that even though there was no issue of funds the state government was ignoring the issue.
He pointed out that while the urban areas of the district are better in terms of facilities and infrastructure, the rural parts of the district are left in the lurch.
“When it comes to facilities such as education, health services, etc, rural parts of the district are given step-motherly treatment and they are still deprived of benefits,” he alleged.
The demand for bifurcation of the district has been a long pending one and the issue still awaits a final decision.
