A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the 2007 murder of Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) pracharak Sunil Joshi.
Ram Charan Patel, the sitting BJP corporator from ward No 44 in Dewas, about 25 km from here, has been remanded to two days' police custody.
The police, however, refused to comment on the charges levelled against Patel, saying that it would hamper investigations.
Joshi, the alleged mastermind of several Hindu terror acts, was murdered in Dewas district on December 29, 2007 by his own men. The Madhya Pradesh police recently arrested three of his aides, while two are still absconding.
Patel had reportedly arranged for the house in Dewas where Joshi lived when the police was on the look out for him in connection with the murder of Congress leader Pyar Singh Nenama, the police said.
The police suspect Patel might have played a role in Joshi's murder. They also believe Patel might have crucial documents and information regarding Joshi's involvement in various blasts.
Joshi was the key conspirator of the Ajmer Sharif blast and Hyderabad's Mecca Masjid blasts — both in 2007 — and is also suspected to be involved in the 2006 Malegaon blasts and the 2007 Samjhauta blasts.
