BPL rebranded as Hutch in TN
Hutchison Essar has rebranded BPL as Hutch in Tamil Nadu circle and aimed to increase market share to over 20% by 2008.
Hutchison Essar, which recently acquired BPL Mobile Cellular, on Thursday rebranded it (BPL) as Hutch in Tamil Nadu circle and aimed to increase market share to over 20 per cent by 2008, a senior executive said.
With presence in 16 circles, accounting for about 90 per cent of the National Mobile subscriber base, the company wanted to increase its present market share of nine per cent to 20-22 per cent within 12-18 months in Tamil Nadu, Hutch CEO Kumar Ramanathan told reporters.
The company, awaiting regulatory clearance for rebranding the Maharashtra BPL Circle, would expand its network in a phased manner from the present 210 towns and 410 cell-sites, and also increase the subscriber base from 14.5 million, as on February end, Kumar said.
The main aim of Hutch was to become 'most preferred service' in this competitive sector, which was witnessing an 100 to 200 per cent annual growth, he claimed.
The company has added 70 towns in the last one month, Kumar said. It has not set any target for expanding the network, but it (expansion) would be carried out on the basis of needs, arising from time to time, with focus on rural coverage.
