Aspiring cricketers of the academy set up by Yuvraj Singh at Pathways School here are missing their hero and wish him a speedy recovery.
The budding cricketers are shocked to hear about the illness of their coach, who used to come here to share tips of the game.
“For us, he is a fighter who has been fighting for our country on the cricket ground. We are keeping our fingers crossed. We hope this time as well he would come out with flying colours and would be here to guide us,” said Kripin Kaila, a student of Class 12.
Though Yuvraj could train the boys only for a week since the academy opened in November, students say they are missing their guide and a motivator.
“I am missing those days when he was here to guide us. We are praying for his quick recovery as he has to prepare many more Yuvrajs,” said Aryan Gupta, a member of the academy.
The Yuvraj Singh Center of Excellence at Pathways School has 60 students and many of them joined to get trained under the cricket star. “The main attraction was certainly Yuvraj and when he came here to guide us, we really felt motivated,” said Gourav Sharma, a Class 9 student.
Yuvraj has been diagnosed with lung cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy in a US hospital, where the doctors say his cancer is curable.
