Building ‘owned’ by MCG senior deputy mayor’s wife sealed

The enforcement wing of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) sealed a four-storeyed building in New Colony in Old Gurgaon area on Monday and issued notices to several other property owners for violating the building sanction plan.
It is alleged that senior deputy mayor Yashpal Batra’s wife is one of the stakeholders in the property, a claim denied by the leader.
“The MCG has taken action on grounds of violation of permission granted for construction of only two-and-a-half floors for residential use. The existing structure has four floors and this shows that the building was being built for commercial purpose,” said a senior MCG official.
The building was still under-construction and the owners were served a notice on February 3 to reply as to why action should not be taken against them.
Officials of the civic body, however, remained tightlipped on the alleged involvement of Batra's wife in illegal construction of the hotel.
The senior deputy mayor, however, denied that his wife had a stake in the property terming the whole issue a “political game”.
“It is all a political game by some senior politicians. They want to malign my image that I have built over the years,” said Batra.
“I will not remain silent as there are hundreds of illegal buildings in the MCG area but no action has been taken to seal or demolish them,” he rued.
In earlier reports, HT has highlighted that the MCG had identified as many as 374 illegal properties under its area but only one building has been demolished so far.
