The caller first dialled Kumar's mobile phone February 22 but rang off before the cloth merchant could pick it up, the official said. Raj Kumar lives in Behat area of Saharanpur, around 400 km from in Lucknow.

"Later, when Kumar called the mobile number with Pakistan's country code 92 as the prefix, the man on the other side said devastating terror attacks would be carried out in Saharanpur," Chandra said.

Following the threatening call, officials of the intelligence department and the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) have been put on a high alert, police said.

"Additional security has been deployed at all public places, including railway stations, shopping complexes, bus stations and hotels," Chandra said.

The police have initiated a joint probe with ATS and intelligence officials. "We are not going to take any chances," the official added.
