Patil is in CBI’s custody in connection with the killing of Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar who along with his driver Samad Kazi was shot dead on June 3, 2006 in Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai.

Patil’s police custody is getting over on Saturday when he would be again produced in the Panvel court.

The CBI is likely to rope in the I-T department by next week to confirm if the seized cash and investment details were declared. The I-T officials would crosscheck it with the returns filed by Patil and his family.

Rishi Raj Singh, Joint Director, CBI, West Zone told HT that they are presently concentrating on Patil’s production in court on Saturday. “After that we will think,” he said about involving the I-T department.

Another CBI official requesting anonymity said that the amount of wealth would go up next week when the bank lockers would be opened.

The CBI would also by next week send the arms and ammunition seized from Patil’s flat to forensic laboratory. The CBI had seized one revolver, a pistol, two rifles, large number of ammunitions and swords.

Singh said that the seized weapons had licences. But he said that they want to match the ammunitions with the weapons. He added that the CBI would check the licence details to know how much ammunition was issued with the weapons and how many of them were used.

The CBI had also seized nine Very High Frequency (VHF) walkie-talkies, documents relating to murder and Terna Sugar Cooperative factory which was the main cause for the killing.
