CBI court rejects bail plea of CRPF IG in recruitment scam
A special CBI court rejected the bail application of suspended CRPF IG Pushkar Singh in connection with the alleged irregularities in recruitment of constables to the anti-naxal force, CoBRA (Combat Battalion for Resolute Action).
A special CBI court on Wednesday rejected the bail application of suspended CRPF IG (Bihar sector) Pushkar Singh in connection with the alleged irregularities in recruitment of constables to the anti-naxal force, CoBRA (Combat Battalion for Resolute Action).
Singh was arrested in Patna along with dismissed CRPF constable Mukesh Kumar Bharadwaj, alleged kingpin of the scam, his wife Swati, Sindhunath and Tripurari Kumar (private persons involved in the fraud) on May six.
Acting CBI Judge Ramshreshtha Rai dismissed the bail plea of Singh, lodged in judicial custody, after hearing his counsel Janardan Rai and special public prosecutor L R Ansari.
While pleading for bail to the suspended IG, Janardan Rai alleged that Singh had been falsely implicated in the case as part of a conspiracy and on the basis of oral statement of Bharadwaj.
Stating that Singh was a highly decorated officer, his counsel said he should be allowed bail.
Strongly opposing the bail plea, CBI counsel Ansari contended that since the investigation in the case was underway, Singh could influence the probe given his influence.
Stating that the investigative agency had substantial proof of his involvement in the fraud, Ansari said the record of the conversation between the IG and Bharadwaj showed that huge money changed hands in the recruitment scam.
