The district magistrates have been directed to prepare landing ground for helicopter in case of outbreak of bird flu. For better surveillance, the State has been divided into five zones: Meerut, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Jhansi and Varanasi. A nodal officer has been deputed in each zone.

Director (Animal Husbandry) Dr RC Sharma said, “We have despatched the samples of the dead chicks to Animal Disease Laboratory, Bhopal, but there is no symptom of bird flu.”

The poultry farm owners Nawab Khan, Almehar and Gyanendra said they had purchased 3,900 chicks from Pairason Breeding Farm in Gurgaon. They had purchased feed from Venkies India Limited. But after the feed exhausted the chicks starved for three days. The immunity system of the chicks weakened.

“When a disease strikes them ,the weak chicks starts dying. To check the disease. the chief veterinary officer of Aligarh directed the farm owners to give cyprofloxin and vitamin to the chicks.

“The disease was checked from spreading and 2,000 chicks are still alive at Nawab farm. If it had been Bird Flu, all of them would have died,” Sharma said.

Meanwhile Trade Tax Department has directed the field officials to permit the entry of poultry stock and feed in the state only after the chief medical officers checked it.
