China has warned millions of computer users to be wary of a potentially dangerous worm virus designed for the popular Hotmail e-mail system, which is likely to break out this week.
It is the first time that China has detected a worm virus targeting Hotmail during Internet supervision.
The damage caused by this virus will be increased as the number of Hotmail users grows quickly, experts with the National Computer Virus Emergency Response Centre under the Ministry of Public Security said.
Experts with the centre based in the north Chinese port city of Tianjin said the virus could spread through the Internet, which would cause heavy losses to company users when they log on to their Hotmail accounts to receive e-mails.
They also reminded users to be wary of big office software holes released last week by Microsoft, among which six high-classed dangerous holes are mainly related to Microsoft Office Excel.
Computer hackers use these holes to invade the computer and can even gain total control.
Other viruses timed to break out next week will not cause major damages to computers, as long as users update their anti-virus software, advised the computer virus centre.
China, with over 110 million netizens, is the world's second biggest Internet market after the United States.
