Police have arrested one more alleged member of Chhota Shakeel gang, who along with his four aides allegedly planned to eliminate an advocate, a senior crime branch official said.
Police have already arrested four accused Abdul Wahab Mohammed Hassan Faqeer (27), Mohammed Salaam Yakub Ali Hakeem (34), Ramesh Warkari (32) and Salaam Mohammed Yousuf Kazi (32) on May 4 at Nagpada in south Mumbai.
“Fifth accused, Fazal-ur Rehman Khan who was also involved in the plan to kill a lawyer, was nabbed at Kurla terminus on Thursday. Khan is the one who was in touch with Chhota Shakeel and updated him about their mission,” Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Rakesh Maria said.
Chhota Shakeel is Dawood Ibrahim’s lieutenant.
The plan was hatched after advocate Naushad Kasamjee was killed by alleged Ravi Pujari gang members on April 9 this year at Mangalore south in Karnataka, as Kasamjee was representing Rashid Malbari, an alleged member of Chotta Shakeel gang.
In retaliation, the five accused planned to kill an advocate who is representing a member of their rival Ravi Pujar gang.
