City centre decongest plan on cards

In the wake of experiments to decongest the Huda City Centre Metro Station junction - like cutting the roundabout here to size – failed to generate desired results, the authorities are considering new plans.

This is a key junction as major roads from residential and commercial areas converge here. With the traffic bound to rise here, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) is constructing a new 150-metre long slip road that is expected to bring some relief.

This road is in addition to two recently built slip roads at Signature Tower Crossing from where there is heavy traffic movement to Huda City Centre Crossing. The junction connects the major roads leading towards Iffco Chowk, hotels Park Plaza and the Palms on the Golf Course Road, Sushant Lok-2 and 3, Gold Souk mall, Ardee City and Sector 56 and other residential and commercial landmarks.

Carved out of an adjoining green belt, the new slip road will divert traffic bound for the Signature Tower Crossing and Sector 29.

The six-storied Metro station complex is also a shopping centre. But it is being used only for Metro services so far. The situation would become more chaotic after the complex is opened for commercial activities.

"When the shopping area opens for public, which can happen anytime soon, the situation is bound to go out of hands," said a traffic police official.

Spread over 29,225 sqm, the basement of the complex has 6,500 parking spaces. Besides, proximity to residential areas and major roads, including Delhi-Gurgaon expressway, can make the area a sought-after destination for shoppers. Moreover, a few five-star hotels and business establishments are coming up near the junction. Huda has earmarked Rs 1.85 crore for decongestion measures here. There are provisions for slip roads, service lane in front of the Fortis Hospital's gate and a foot over bridge connecting the Metro station complex to this service lane.
