Clash in SSU, several hurt

MORE THAN half a dozen students and activists of the Samajwadi Party (SP) were injured at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University (SSU) on Sunday when both the parties clashed and pelted stones at each other on the issue of entry on the varsity campus. Several employees of the varsity were also injured in the stone pelting .

The activists of SP were opposing the decision of the varsity administration to ban entry of outsiders on the varsity campus for morning walk. They tried to forcibly enter the varsity campus, but the security personnel of the varsity’s proctorial board stopped them at the main gate. The SP activists then pelted stones at the security personnel while the students and members of the proctorial board also retaliated in the same manner.

Meanwhile, police reached the varsity and resorted to lathicharge and dispersed the agitated activists and students. Both the groups again entered into a fight when the injured students, employees and SP activists were under treatment at Shiv Prasad Gupta Divisional Hospital in Kabir Chaura area. The SSU students blocked traffic for more than an hour at Teliabagh and demanded immediate arrest of the SP activists who tried to vitiate the peaceful atomosphere  in the varsity.

Both the parties have lodged FIRs against each other at the Chetganj police station. Heavy security force and jawans of rapid Action Force were deployed at the main gate of the varsity soon after the incident to avoid any untoward incident.

It may be mentioned that the varsity administration had imposed ban on the entry of outsiders on the varsity campus. The varsity administration this decision after a scuffle between the varsity security personnel and outsiders a few days ago on the issue of morning walk.
