In a high-level meeting here, Singh took stock of the Government action to check further spread of the disease. Animal Husbandry Minister Ramakant Tiwari and departmental officers informed the Chief Minister about the measures taken in this regard.
The Chief Minister directed to increase amount of compensation for culling of the birds. Accordingly, compensation for culling of a table bird has been increased to Rs 60 from Rs 40, for layer Rs 40 from Rs 30 and for a chick Rs 20 from Rs 10.
According to official sources, compensation has already been distributed to most of the 498 affected families. The situation is fully under control.
Veterinary and health teams of Government of India and 28 Rapid Response Teams (RRT) of the State were active in the affected areas.
The work of culling and safe burying of birds was carried out with all precautions as per the guidelines issued by Government of India.
The staff engaged in this operation was provided protective clothing and immunised against Tamiflu. As a precaution they would be kept under observation for seven days. Section 144 was in force strictly in a radius of 10 km from Ichhapur to prevent import and export of poultry and poultry products in the area.
The villages were also disinfected by fogging. The culled birds were disposed of in 18 pits dug across five quarantine zones within 10 km radius of Ichhapur, Veterinary Services Commissioner Rajesh Rajora said. While the Madhya Pradesh Government was carrying out culling operation in 23 villages around Ichhapur, Maharashtra Government will cull the birds in 28 villages falling under the 10 km radius of the affected area tomorrow.
Districts neighbouring Maharashtra and Gujarat, like Barwani, Jhabua, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Khargone, Betul, Dhar, Dewas, Harda, Chhindwara, Hoshangabad and Indore, have been marked as ‘critical’ districts and instructions were issued to collect 3-5 poultry samples for tests by April 1, official sources added.
Strict vigil was being maintained at 30 entry points to the State from Maharashtra and three entry points from Gujarat, where major transportation of poultry products was recorded, sources said. Besides, meetings of poultry breeders associations have been held in every district to inform them about Centre’s bio-safety norms and ask them to ensure its strict implementation, they added.
In a bid to prevent human transmission, 22 State research laboratories have been put on alert and Rs 2.25 crore worth funds have been distributed among districts to purchase necessary equipment, medicines, disinfectants and protective kits to deal with the bird flu threat, sources said.
