Cong revokes Jogi's suspension
Congress sprung a surprise by revoking suspension of controversial former Chattisgarh CM Ajit Jogi and fielding him from Mahasamund against VC Shukla.
Congress on Tuesday sprung a surprise by revoking suspension of controversial former Chattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi and fielding him from Mahasamund against VC Shukla, former party leader and now a BJP candidate, as it released the fifth list of 61 candidates for the Lok Sabha polls.
Jogi was suspended from the party after the assembly polls in the wake of the 'Cash-for-MLAs' scandal aimed at splitting BJP to form an alternative government. Without the authorisation of the party leadership, Jogi had written a letter addressed to the Governor extending Congress support to a breakaway group in the event of a split in the BJP.
The AICC made the announcement of Jogi's candidature saying the former Chief Minister had apologised for his "lapses" and his suspension has been revoked.
With no signs of any tie-up with either BSP or SP, the party announced 18 candidates from Uttar Pradesh, including former Union Minister Satish Sharma.
Sharma has been shifted to neighboring Sultanpur from Rae Barreli from where Congress President Sonia Gandhi is the party candidate.
Former state Chief Minister Ram Naresh Yadav and AICC Secretary R P N Singh and CWC memebr Mahabir Prasad are the prominent candidates from the state.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde's wife Ujwala Shinde has been nominated from Sholapur, the home constituency of Shinde, which the party had lost badly to BJP in a bypoll last year. (more) PTI JA SPG MKS MSA MKS 03301536 D
