Cong to announce third list tomorrow for Goa polls
Congress to announce the third list of candidates for June 2 Goa Assemble polls by Saturday.
Congress on Friday said it will announce the third list of candidates for the June 2 Goa Assembly polls by Saturday.
"We have already declared 22 out of 34 names and the third list will be out by tomorrow afternoon," All India Congress Committee general secretary Margaret Alva told reporters.
The crucial list is likely to address an important issue of two tickets to the same family. Goa Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane and his son Vishwajeet and former Minister Atanasio Monserratte and his wife Jeniffer are amongst the contenders in the third list.
While Goa Chief Minister's name is yet to be officially declared in the candidature list, Alva on Friday hinted that Rane will contest from his traditional Poriem constituency.
The party leader, however, refused to speak anything on Vishwajeet's candidature. "There are few hiccups with a couple of seats. It is left to Congress President to finalise it and she will do it by tomorrow," Alva said.
Vishwajeet, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary, has been managing five constituencies in Bicholim and Sattari taluka.
Rumours were making round yesterday that Vishwajeet might contest as an independent from Valpoi constituency, if he is denied ticket. However, there was no statement from Vishwajeet on the issue.
Similarly, Monserratte has been pressing hard for ticket to his wife, Jeniffer, in St Cruz constituency which is represented by sitting lady legislator Victoria Fernandes.
The third list will also address loyalty issue with as many as seven congressmen claiming to be "Congress loyalitsts" putting their claim for the ticket.
