Describing Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s resignation from Lok Sabha and National Advisory Council (NAC) as supreme sacrifice, leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi today said the step has further enhanced the Congress chief’s esteem which she had gained by spurning the Prime Minister’ post.

In a statement, the veteran Congress leader accused Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, several ministers and BJP MLAs of availing benefit of two posts of profit and sought their resignations. She also raised the issue in the State Assembly, seeking resignation of the BJP leaders.

Jamuna Devi pointed out the Chief Minister is also availing benefit of Member of Parliament.  Likewise, Transport Minister Himmat Kothari is Madhya Pradesh Road Transport Corporation chairman; Industry Minister Babulal Gaur is chairmen of the State Industries Corporation; Cooperative Minister Gopal Bhargava is chairman of Markfed; Tourism Minister Yashodhara Raje

is chairperson of the MP State Tourism Development Corporation; Higher Education Minister Tukoji Rao Pawar is chairman of the Hindi Granth Academy; Ramakant Tiwari is chairman of the Handicraft and Handloom Development and Poultry Development Corporations; Tribal Welfare Minister Vijay Shah is chairman of the Tribal and Finance Development Corporation.
She mentioned a couple of more ministers’ name in this connection.

Similarly, she added, MLA Laxman Singh Gaud is vice-chairman of the Panch-Ja committee and Lal Singh Arya and Shivraj Shah its members.

She said they should also resign for the sake of probity in public life.  The leader of Opposition asserted that Sonia Gandhi was not on the post of profit and yet she resigned following the Opposition’s baseless allegations to set high moral principles in the society which is commendable.

State Congress president Subhash Yadav has said that by resigning from the Lok Sabha and NAC chairmanship, Gandhi has hit a slap on the face of the Opposition.

He also demanded that leaders of BJP and other parties who are holding offices of profit should immediately tender their resignations on moral grounds.

He demanded that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh should resign, as he was still Lok Sabha member. Former minister Ajay Singh also praised Sonia Gandhi for her sacrifice and urged her to withdraw the resignation. Similar sentiments were voiced by a host of Congress leaders and workers in their statements to the press.
