Cong will form govt in Karnataka, asserts Krishna
Disagreeing with his party General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad, CM Krishna asserted that the party would form govt on its own.
Sharply disagreeing with his party General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad who has reportedly hinted at a Congress pact with JD(S) in Karnataka if the party fell short of numbers, Chief Minister S M Krishna on Friday asserted that the party would form government on its own.
"We conducted the elections in Karnataka. We will get a clear majority. We will form the government on our own. Have no doubt on that score. We don't need anybody's support", an apparently annoyed Krishna told reporters here.
Asked about Azad's remark, Krishna shot back, saying, "did he come here. Did you (media) see him here (in the state).
Azad was quoted as having said in Srinagar yesterday that the Congress would seek the support of JD(S) in case it did not secure majority in the elections to the assembly which were held in Karnataka in tandem with Lok Sabha polls.
To repeated queries on Azad's remarks including on the possibility of a hung assembly, Krishna reacted sharply, asking the reporters to direct such questions to Azad.
Ruling out a hung assembly, Krishna stuck to his oft-repeated position that the Congress would secure a "comfortable majority" to be able to form "our own single party government".
