Though the Prime Minister chose to mostly attack Congress during his speech, his appeal for a stable and strong Government at the Centre was well received by the electorate, Tamil Nadu BJP treasurer, S R Seghar told PTI.

Moreover, the assurance to solve the water crisis and CENVAT, a major problem faced by the textile industry, predominant in the region, has also helped to repose faith in the party, Seghar, who is also the campaign manager, claimed.

When contacted, sources in CPI, claiming a victory margin of 1.5 lakh for Subbarayan, said that though there might be a marginal swing in BJP's favour, it would not at all affect its winning prospects.

Vajpayee's visit might only help to reduce the victory margin by 10 to 15 per cent, the sources claimed.

BJP chose to bring Vajpayee to Tirupur, as it has 30 per cent of the 15 lakh voters in the constituency and also because both the candidates belonged to the area.
