Curfew after group clash in Dhar, two injured
Curfew is clamped in Kukshi town as members of two communities clash and set ablaze vehicles and shops.
Curfew was clamped on Monday in Kukshi town in Dhar after members of two communities clashed and set ablaze vehicles and shops prompting police to lob teargas shells to contain the violence, officials said.
Though eyewitnesses claimed two persons were injured in the clash, officials were yet to confirm it.
Curfew was clamped in the town, 130 km from Dhar, following violence during a roadblock staged by members of a community protesting plans to raze down a dargah for construction of a Sports Complex, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Kukshi) ON Shrivastava told PTI.
Members of both communities pelted stones and set ablaze three motorcycles and two shops, before police lobbed teargas shells to disperse the violent crowd, Additional Collector Maal Singh said.
As incidents of stone-pelting were reported from 4-5 places, prohibitory orders under Section 144 were initially clamped, he said adding additional force was deployed in the area and police were patrolling the streets to keep the situation under control.
The row had started after Kukshi Municipality had granted permission to a sports club to remove the dargah and a temple for construction of the complex as part of its expansion plans.
