The
dabbawallas
, who had once caught the attention of Prince Charles for their networking, on Tuesday turned management
gurus
in Mumbai as they imparted business skills to the industry professionals in a lecture conducted in Mumbai by a business house.
In his presentation, President of Nutan Mumbai Tiffin Box Supplier, Raghunath Medge, described how dabbawalahs had grown with time by adopting a novel code system to ensure that tiffin boxes reached their destination without confusion or delay.
"The method that we have adopted is simple and easy. For us, customer satisfaction matters a lot, we are here to deliver our services to them. The dabbawalas deliver tiffins by travelling through trains, bicycle or carts because we do not believe in using modern day methods or technology," Medge said.
Professionals from corporate sector and management students heard the lecture in rapt attention and were seen taking notes.
"The dabbawallas have proved that an MBA degree or any other degree cannot bring in excellence in their work, it is the dedication, commitment and loyalty that pays off in the end. They have shown that nothing is impossible," Sudhir Rangekar, former SCI Director and Group CEO of SICAL Logistics Limited, said.
