Making full use of a placid strip of the KD Singh 'Babu' Stadium, Karthick taught a lesson to the Sri Lankan bowlers with his hard-hitting batting all-around the ground. Former Indian team opener Akash Chopra was also in his nick, giving a good support to Karthick in the middle. The duo added 86 runs for the second wicket as Sahara India piled up 267/7 in the stipulated 40 overs after they chose to bat first.

Later, young bowler from Bengal Ranadeb Bose removed both the openers on duck in his very two overs. And then Laxmi Ratan Shukla took 4/40 to skittle the visitors out for 193 in 38.5 overs. Jaidev Shah also took 2/9.

Arosh Janoda remained the top scorer for the Colombo Colts with 43, which contained two fours and equal number of sixes. The win, however, fetched Sahara India with five points, including a bonus.

Abbas Raza shines!

ABBAS RAZA bagged 4/31 in his eight over spell as Rizvi Builders carved out a thrilling nine-run victory against Indian Oil in other league match of the day, at the Chowk Stadium. Needing 199 to win in 40 overs, India Oil got out for 189 in 39.4 overs.

Besides Abbas, spinners duo Paresh Patel and Karan Sharma took two wickets each to fashions team's victory. The wickets were falling on regular intervals from the one end, but at the other end Cheteshwar Pujara was standing like a solid rock. His marathon 80-run innings off 100 balls with four fours and a six finally came to an end in the penultimate over of Jyoti Yadav.

Spinners Vikrant Yeligeti and Bal Krishna with three wickets each put the breaks on Rizvi Builders innings after they chose to bat first in the morning. Opener Varun Kumar (39), Prashant Gupta (30), Paresh Patel (27) and Brijesh Tomar (20) made small but useful contributions to help the side score 198/9.

On Saturday, Colombo Colts meet Rizvi Builders, at the Chowk Stadium, while Sahara India take on Indian Oil, at the KD Singh 'Babu' Stadium.
