While the government ended the suspense over the DNA test results, it has now started the process of showing Geetha photographs of many families who have claimed that she is their daughter. But so far, Geeta, staying in a care home in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, has not identified anyone as her parents.

External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, who is also a Lok Sabha MP from Vidhisha in Madhya Pradesh will travel to Indore on November 23 to meet Geeta and enquire about her well-being.

“It is true that we had done DNA test of Geeta. The Mahato family had come forward and seeing their pictures, Geeta had felt perhaps they are her parents. Their DNA test was also conducted. Her DNA test was negative,” external affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said.

The report, prepared by AIIMS, has been sent to Mahato family, he said. Geeta failed to recognise the Mahato family after arriving here though she had indentified them as her parents while she was in Pakistan.

She is being given skill training in Indore now. Geeta’s story came to light after the release of Salman Khan starer ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ in which the hero unites a little girl separated from her Pakistani mother who was visiting India. Mahato claimed Geeta was his first child and her name was Heera who was lost in a fair in 2004.
