Doctors booked following sting operation

The channel claimed its sting operation had exposed the nexus "between the beggar mafia and doctors".

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh have initiated a probe against one of the two doctors from the state named in a sting operation for allegedly agreeing to amputate the limbs of beggars while another doctor has been questioned by the police in the national capital.

Ghaziabad District Magistrate MKS Sundaram said the chief medical officer of the state-run MMG Hospital has been asked to conduct a probe against Ajay Kumar Agarwal, one of three doctors named in the expose by a private news channel on Saturday, and submit a report within three days. Agarwal has been untraceable since the channel aired the expose on Saturday.

In New Delhi, police detained and questioned PK Bansal, who runs a clinic in the Old Rajinder Nagar area, in connection with the expose. Bansal has denied all allegations against him.

The third doctor, Arvind Agarwal, who is the secretary of the Orthopaedic Association of Bareilly, is also untraceable.

The channel claimed its sting operation had exposed the nexus "between the beggar mafia and doctors". It said the beggar mafia deliberately maims people to make them beg.
