DPA alleges AIADMK for pressurising women's groups

In a joint memorandum, submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer, Tamil Nadu, Mritunjay Saranghi, the alliance constituents - DMK, Congress, PMK, MDMK, CPI-M, CPI and Indian Union Muslim league - said the members of these groups were being compelled to attend the election meetings addressed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
The members were distributed free sarees in green colour with AIADMK's two leaves symbols printed on them, they alleged and asked CEO to direct the district collectors not to convene meetings of women SHGs till the elections were over.
They also charged the AIADMK leaders including its general secretary Jayalalithaa with resorting to smear campaign, violating the section 2 of the model code, which prohibited wild and unverified charges, criticism of all aspects of private life and use of abusive language.
A Tamil Nadu minister was spreading "falsehood" about the CPI-M candidate of Nagercoil that he was an accused in a murder case, they alleged and wanted the Election Commission to instruct the state police to file cases against those resorting to such a smear campaign.
T K S Elangovan and Viduthali Virumbi (DMK), G K Mani (PMK), Sabapathy Mohan (MDMK), S R Balasubramanian (Congress) G Ramakrishnan (CPI-M), S S Thiyagarajan (CPI) and K A Wahab (IUML) were signatories to the memorandum.
