Drugged-up lifters face life ban
The two Indians tested positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol at C'wealth Games have not been officially named.
Two Indian weightlifters who failed dope tests at the Commonwealth Games face being banned for life, the president of the Indian Weightlifting Federation said on Friday.
HJ Dora, who is also the Indian chef de mission, said drug use would not be tolerated.
"The Indian Weightlifting Federation has already taken very serious measures regarding doping," he said in a statement.
"The federation's bylaws are very clear that if any athlete is found positive in an international competition they will be subject to a life-ban."
The lifters, who tested positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol, have not been officially named as their cases have yet to be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
But sources said they are Edwin Raju, who finished fourth in the men's 56kg category, and Tejinder Singh, who withdrew from the 85kg on Monday.
"All of our athletes are counseled on the use of banned substances and are fully aware of the consequences should they be found using them," said Dora.
