A former sarpanch of Samastpur village allegedly attempted suicide on Wednesday night after he was allegedly duped of R2 crore by an inspector of Gurgaon police.
Sunil Yadav (34), committed suicide in the Badshapur area of Gurgaon.
Police sources said the victim had sold 700 yard chunk of land to the relative of one Kuldeep Beri, an inspector in Gurgaon police. The inspector had reportedly persuaded Yadav to sell the land to his relatives. The deal was fixed at R2 crore and Yadav received R60 lakh as the initial payment.
As days passed, Yadav urged the inspector to make the final payment, said the police.
However, the accused not only allegedly denied making further payment but also threatened Yadav of dire consequences, the police added.
The victim’s was admitted to a private hospital where his condition is stated to be critical. “We have registered a case under Sections 34, 323, 342, 506 and 406 against Kuldeep Beri. Strict action will be taken against the culprit,” said Hamid Akhtar, Gurgaon DCP (South).
