As commuters were stuck in jams on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway for hours on Monday morning, the authorities had nothing to offer, except a blame game.
The Delhi Gurgaon Super Connectivity Limited (DGSCL) blamed the Rapid MetroRail construction work for the congestion near Cyber City on Monday.
The toll operator said diversions made to facilitate metro work have thrown traffic out of gear, especially near the toll plaza. Rapid Metro officials, on the other hand, strongly objected to DGSCL's claim.
They said no additional diversions had been put in place by them recently. The last diversion was set up around 15 days ago and traffic had been smooth till now, officials said.
In a statement, the DGSCL blamed the Rapid Metro construction for the traffic mess around the Gurgaon expressway. The toll operator's spokesperson said the slip road created to direct commuters to Cyber City that is the main culprit.
"The width of this slip road is much less than the width of the original turn. It is not sufficient to cater to the traffic volume; hence, it leads to congestion. Moreover, this makeshift road has developed several pot holes which further slowdown vehicles," the spokesperson said.
Some officials, however, called the toll operator's statement a tactical move to shift the blame of mismanaged traffic. The concessionaire has to file a reply in court soon for measures taken to improve the worsening situation. "We strongly object to the claims made by the DGSCL," said the Rapid Metro spokesperson.
The firm is deliberately diverting attention from their failure to manage traffic on the link road.
