EC rap for BJP, Cong leaders
The leaders are said to have reportedly traded charges using 'un-parliamentary' language in the assembly election campaign.
The Election Commission on Wednesday served notices to AICC general secretary BK Hariprasad and the BJP’s state unit chief Purshottam Rupala for violation of the code of conduct in the run up to the Gujarat polls.
The two were found guilty by the panel for creating “hatred” through their speeches at meetings. They have been asked to give their replies by Friday noon.
Rupala had raised questions about the Nehru-Gandhi family at a public meeting in Surat on last Monday, while Haripasad raked up the issue of Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s lineage.
An EC spokesperson said the code had come into force from October 10. It requires that no party or candidate shall indulge in any activity, which creates communal hatred or tension between different castes and communities.
