Sayeed (name changed), a resident of Kailas Nagar chawl, was allegedly abused by Sheikh a month ago.

“He had lured him to his room and abused him,” said Arun Sonde, the senior police inspector of Mumbra police station. “Sayeed kept mum about the incident for a month. On Wednesday he told his close friend about it who told Sayeed’s mother.”

The angry family members, including the 62-year-old grandmother, dragged Sheikh out of his room to the street around 1.30 am on Thursday.

“They started assaulting him with the wooden handle of a spade and a blade used by barbers. After he was dead, they left his body lying near a shop on the road,” Sonde added.

The police have arrested the four accused — the boy’s father Abdul Wahid (37), uncles Salim Sheikh (29) and Abdul Razzak (32) and his grandmother Salma Begum (62).

“He was our tenant staying in the room above ours. Though he had sexually abused my son a month ago, we had to take this step,” said Wahid in a statement to the police.

Wahid, who has a furniture shop in the area, has had several cases of robbery and house break-ins against him. He had rented the room to Mohammed Sheikh, who had a tailoring business, seven months ago. Mohammed’s parents and his brother stay in Chinchpokli.

“The boy has been sent for a medical examination,” Sonde said. “We are waiting for the post-mortem report of the deceased.”

Siraj Khan, an eyewitness and complainant, told the police he heard somebody screaming. “I saw that the accused had pinned the man against the wall of a shop and were brutally assaulting him. I told them to hand him over to the police but they threatened me. In the morning when I saw the body, I lodged a complaint.”
