According to center coordinator Narendra Kohli, all seats in these disciplines were reserved for students like freedom fighters’ wards, girls and wards of armed forces’ personnel.

Since no students belonging to these categories opted for counselling, the seats were opened for general SC, ST, and OBC, candidates so that no college suffers loss due to vacant seats in this category.

He said about 200 candidates appeared for counselling today and submitted their choices.

Over 10 per cent seats were not filled in these courses. While on one hand, candidates did not opt for these courses, on the other hand, those who preferred these courses, avoided going to private colleges. However, since all seats at government colleges are taken, students have no option but to join the course in private colleges, or take another attempt next year.

Deputy coordinators counselling Ashok Kumar and KA Misra told the ‘Hindustan Times’ that as per the university directive, there would be no counselling after July 29. But if seats remained unfilled and colleges demanded extension in counseling, the university could consider extending the counselling session, they said.

Dr Kohli said that online counselling could be held successfully through the institute’s lease line. The hired lease line had created certain problems that had hampered counselling in the beginning. Later, the university allowed the use of the Institute’s lease line, which helped expedite the counseling within the fixed schedule.
