Fight against Maoists
It would be unfair of the Chhattisgarh government to attempt to stop the Salwa Judum movement (Maoists army butchers 31, July 18). The rebels enjoyed the support of tribals when they stepped in. But their terror tactics were soon exposed. The weakening tribal support is the reason why they are being attacked.

BJP’s gimmicks
Apropos of the editorial Empty vessels making noise (July 26), now being a spent force, the BJP-led NDA is indulging in all sorts of gimmicks to make up for lost ground. The recent drama of banging metal plates outside Rashtrapati Bhavan reveals political immaturity.

The demonstration was an exercise in futility and unbecoming of a responsible Opposition. It betrayed the BJP’s absence of a substantive issue. The banging of metallic vessels did nothing but add to the ever-increasing noise pollution of the national capital. That the Opposition was not concerned about this tamasha wasting Parliament’s precious time is a sad commentary on the state of affairs in the NDA in general and the BJP in particular.

India divided
For once I agreed with President Musharraf when he said that India has enemies within. We are soft targets because we are not united. It is shameful that our politicians and the political parties try to exploit acts of terrorism to promote their own political agenda. Their priority should be to stand together as a combined force to fight terrorism. Terrorists are taking full advantage of this.
It’s time professionals, political parties and the media acted together to tighten loose ends in dealing with the increasing problem of terrorism, without sensitising the issue.

Negligent act
The Prince episode should teach authorities to take their duties seriously. Those responsible for negligence should be taken to task.
