The first chargesheet were filed against suspended BJP MP Babubhai Katara and other accused persons for their alleged involvement in the human trafficking case.

The Delhi police on Monday filed the first chargesheet against suspended BJP MP Babubhai Katara and other accused persons for their alleged involvement in the human trafficking case. Katara was arrested with co-accused Paramjeet Kaur and a 15-year-old boy from the IGI airport on April 18 while attempting to take them to Toronto in Canada on the diplomatic passports of his wife and son.

While the police has framed Katara and others for forgery and cheating under sections 420 (cheating), 471 (using forged documents as genuine) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC, sources in Delhi police have revealed that names of other four MPs which cropped up during the investigations have not found any mention in the chargesheet. The names of BSP's Mohammad Tahir Khan, Mitrasen Yadav, Ashok Kumar Rawat and BJP's Ram Swaroop Kohli had surfaced during the interrogation of Sunder Lal Yadav, a paan shop owner who was arrested on April 20.

"We are yet to get the original travel documents from these MP's. The investigations are still on and we are not ruling out their involvement in this case. We have strong evidence against them. We can call them for questioning once again. We will be filing a separate chargesheet in the case," said a senior police officer.

In the chargesheet filed 88 days after his arrest at IGI Airport here, the investigators found sufficient evidence against him and five others to invoke a stringent section 467 of IPC, which pertains to forgery of valuable security, will etc.

Meanwhile, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kamini Lau allowed custody parole of the MP for July 19 and August 10 to enable him to cast his vote in the Presidential and Vice-Presidential elections respectively while dismissing his interim bail plea.

The police, however, did not file the chargesheet against Rasheed, a Hyderabad-based travel agent who had admitted hobnobbing with several MPs and MLAs, including Katara in the human trafficking trade.

As the police failed to procure the requisite sanction from the External Affairs Ministry, the court refused to take cognizance of the charges for the alleged violation of the Passport Act by the accused. The MP is alleged to have received Rs three lakh in advance for ensuring the foreign travel of Kaur and the teenager.
