A fresh batch of 306 Indians and 104 nationals of some other countries, evacuated from Lebanon, were airlifted here from Cyprus.
A fresh batch of 306 Indians and 104 nationals of some other countries, evacuated from Lebanon, were airlifted from Cyprus, raising to 1859 the number of people pulled out from troubled West Asia.
The evacuees were brought to Delhi by a special Air India plane from Larnaca in Cyprus where they reached this morning by an Indian Naval ship from Beirut.
Among the 306 Indians, the majority 250 hail from Punjab while 30 hail from Tamil Nadu and 16 from Delhi. Eight passengers are from Kerala while two belongs to Maharashtra.
The foreigners evacuated included 88 Sri Lankans and 16 Nepalese, Overseas Indian Affairs Ministry said here.
This is the third evacuation from Lebanon since July 21.
A chartered flight will carry about 150 passengers to Amritsar while rest of them will be carried to their respective destinations by connecting flights or via road.
Earlier on Friday last, 602 Indians were brought home by two Air India planes. There were about 12,000 Indian nationals living in Lebanon before the hostilities started.
Indian Navy has four warships in the Mediterranean Sea tasked to carry out the evacuation of Indian nationals and INS Mumbai missile-destroyer is the largest of the four.
