This time, chief minister Jarbom Gamlin has led a team of about 23 MLAs to New Delhi seeking the Congress high command’s action to oust state Congress party chief and PWD minister Nabam Tuki.

“The delegation could not meet anyone from the party high command but the message was sent to the MLAs to go back and deliver on the election manifesto,” said a party source indicating the Congress high command’s reluctance to meddle in the matter as of now.

“As of now, we will all abide by the disciplinary ethos of the Congress party,” said Tuki on being contacted.

But even now the dominant feeling is that the crisis is far from over. “Tuki can also whip up sufficient support. Gamin was appointed in an arbitrary manner and there was no consensus among the MLAs,” the source added.

The root of the present problem lies in the ‘hurried’ manner in which Gamlin was appointed the CM and in the allotment of portfolios where the wide-ranging experience of senior Congress leaders like Nabam Tuki, Mukut Mithi, Tako Dabi, Takam Sanjay was seen as being ignored in the process.

Gamlin declined to comment on the developments.

The 60-member state assembly has 42 Congress members, 5 from the NCP, 5 from Trinamool, 4 from PPA, 3 from BJP, with one being an independent legislator.
