The rally started from Azad Park in Lahurabeer area and after covering several places, it concluded at Piplani Katra. All the participants of the rally were wearing white caps. Chief Medical Officer Dr AP Singh flagged off the rally.

Addressing a seminar at Amar Banquet Hall in Ramkatora area, head of TB department at the Institute of Medical Sciences in Banaras Hindu University, Prof SC Mattah said that most of the patients of TB were reluctant in going to hospitals or clinics for their treatment.

“It compounds the problems of these patients as TB gets advanced when they reached the hospitals,” he said.

“Delay in treatment causes infection of this disease into other parts of the body,” he said and added that such type of practices among the TB patients is an unhealthy trend.

Planning director of DOTS, UC Pathak, stressed that TB is a curable diseases and could be treated within a certain time-frame. He informed that DOTS planning is running at three separate places in country. “Varanasi district is identified for the DOTS scheme in Uttar Pradesh and the responsibility of DOTS is given in Varanasi district to Social Welfare Institute,” he said.

“TB is declared as a global emergency,” he said and added that this disease is infectious but complete cure was also possible.

Pathak said one patient died of TB every minute in India and therefore the people should understand the threat of TB and use DOTS therapy.
