Get serious about Race Course Road
While the fun-seekers spent a night at the police station it seems those responsible for letting them in have been spared.
We protect ourselves from sniggering and thus are, in most cases, successful in showcasing our concern about serious matters. One such serious matter last week was, of course, the breach of security that let three people in one car pass through a security barrier that leads up to the Prime Minister’s residence. While the three ‘breachers’ were initially reported by the media as being “inebriated” — by virtue of their smiling and air-kissing at the cameras — it turned out that the purpose of their illegitimate sojourn was “to have some fun”. Fun, for us, of course, is no frivolous matter — it involves the possibility of the nation’s leader coming under security threat.
While the fun-seekers spent a night at the police station — luckily, none of them turned out to be the PM’s niece as one of them had claimed at the sentry post which let their car pass — it seems those responsible for letting them in have been spared. Now, despite our seriousness and the serious nature of the misdemeanour, we don’t suggest drastic action against those who were made bakras. But surely they can be ticked-off a wee bit? Perhaps that sort of action has already been taken, perhaps it hasn’t — considering that an official PMO statement insisted that crossing that particular police post was not a big deal, but crossing the next one would have been.
What we are worried about — and this worry is moderately serious — is the possibility of mediapersons with sting cameras trying to breach the security of VVIPs including the PM in the next few weeks and telling the nation, “Look! It’s so easy to breach the security of VVIPs at a time when we are so vulnerable from youngsters taking a joyride!” Now, that is a serious concern.
