A 5-year old girl was killed and her elder brother injured in a crossfire between two factions of Kuki militants in Manipur’s Chandel district bordering Myanmar, official sources said on Saturday.

Sources said Falminthang Mate died on the spot after she was hit by stray bullets during exchange of fire between two groups of Kuki militants at Chajol village under Tengnoupal police station on Friday.

Sources said her brother Paokholal Mate (13) also sustained bullet injuries and was being treated at Community Health Centre at border town of Moreh, about 120 Kms south-east of Imphal.

It was not immediately known which factions of the Kuki militants were involved in the incident, sources said adding that Kuki National Front, Kuki Liberation Army and Kuki Revolutionary Army members were active in the area.

The Kuki militants have been demanding breaking up of Manipur to form smaller states along ethnic lines, sources said.
