Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar Wednesday put his foot down on the possibility of dance bars officially starting in the state.

"I will not give excise licence to anyone who wants to start a dance bar in Goa," Parrikar said in response to a question during a post-cabinet meeting media interaction.

Parrikar's statement comes at a time when several people have been arrested and a host of women 'rescued' from dance bars operating in the tourism-oriented coastal belt.
The issue of dance bars is back in focus after the Supreme Court overruled the Maharashtra government's 2006 ban, giving a go-ahead to the re-opening of dance bars in that state.
