The wards to be done away with are Khoonipur, Nathmalpur, Ghasikatar, Illahibagh, Sidharipur and Buxipur.

Reconstitution of wards has increased worries of possible contestants. With inclusion of ten more wards, political parties have started search for suitable candidates.

The new localities that have been included in the Municipal Corporation’s jurisdiction are Semra, Salempur and Medical College area, which will be part of the new Semra ward. Similarly, in another new ward Jungle Beni Madho and Lohia Nagar, new areas like Azad Chowk will be under the jurisdiction of the municipal corporation.

Hamirpur, Phokhar Bhinda and Karim Nagar have been included in Chargawan ward.

Similarly, Jharna Tola and Mahadev Jharkhandi Tukda number 3 have been included in the new ward of Jharna Towa. Sources said each ward would have 1/70th of the total number of voters.  According to Census-2001, there are 6,22,220 voters in the city. With inclusion of new names in the voter list, the strength of the electorate will obviously increase. Moreover, delimitation of new wards will depend on the Scheduled Caste population.

The State Government has included 16 more castes in the SC, including Nishad, and Prajapati, which will have an effect on delimitation and constitution of wards.

The State Government had decided to go for municipal corporation elections on the basis of Census 1991, but a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Allahabad High Court. The court directed the State Government to reconstitute wards in light of Census 2001.
