Govt appoints Competition Commission's chairman
Former Executive Director World Bank Dhanendra Kumar today took over as chairman Competition Commission of India. The Commission looks into the welfare of the consumers and check anti-competition forces. Satyen Mohapatra reports.
Former Executive Director World Bank Dhanendra Kumar today took over as chairman Competition Commission of India in New Delhi. Former Coal Secretary Harish Chandra Gupta took over as Member.
Minister Corporate Affairs Prem Chand Gupta speaking on the occasion said though there had been delay due to legal challenges India had now become one among 105 other countries of the world to have a full fledged Competition Commission.
He said the Appellate Tribunal for this is in the process of being formed.
He said three more members had been selected whose names will be announced soon.
The role of the Commission would be too look into the welfare of the consumers and check anti-competition forces, he added.
Competition Act with amendements was passed in 2007.
Chairman Dhandendra Kumar said that competition is the essence of business rivalry. The Commission will like to promote level playing field and get the consumers the best quality in goods and services, he added.
