GGL's hope emanates from a UPSRTC directive allowing the company to resume its CNG dispensing operations from the UPSRTC depot in Gomti Nagar, reports Santosh Chowdhury.

After locking horns with the former Samajwadi Party (SP) Government over hurdles caused in implementation of the City Gas Project for almost a year in the state capital, the Green Gas Ltd (GGL) is finally hoping to resume the gas pipeline laying work shortly under the new regime.

GGL's first ray of hope had already emanated from a directive of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) on Monday (May 14, 2007) allowing the company to resume its CNG dispensing operations from the UPSRTC depot in Gomti Nagar— a day after Chief Minister Mayawati took the oath of office at Raj Bhavan in the city.

"GGL's CNG dispensing operations were directed to be stopped at UPSRTC depot at Gomti Nagar on March 3, 2007 on the directives of the former government without citing any explanation," GGL Director (commercial) RK Sharma told

He said the company was awaiting a go-ahead from the new regime under Chief Minster Mayawati to resume the pipeline laying work for the City Gas Project, which had been lying completely suspended for nearly a year in the city.

"We kept telling officials in the former SP Government that CNG was a central subject and they had no jurisdiction over stopping the pipeline laying work in the city but nobody was listening,” Sharma said.

The GGL pipeline laying work came to a halt when the National Highway Wing of the State Public Works Department (PWD) on June 6, 2006 disallowed any pipeline laying work along the 12-kms stretch of national highways (NH) 25 and 28 passing through the city.

The company established its first CNG Mother Station at Amausi on April 2, 2006. As part of Phase I of the implementation of the gas project which involves the laying of the 22-km pipeline from Amausi to Gomti Nagar, about 96,000 kgs of CNG was to be dispensed to 8,000 taxis and 500 buses per day across nine locations in the city by December 30, 2006. This was apart from distribution of piped natural gas (PNG) to 1,000 houses in LDA and Ashiyana colony besides 30 commercial establishments in the Hazratganj area by June 2007.

"We are preparing to meet Chief Minister Mayawati to apprise her of the problems faced during the previous regime in implementing the project and seek her co-operation to resume work at the pipeline laying sites across the city within a week's time," Sharma added.
