Normal life was paralysed for the second day on Sunday as heavy rains continued to lash the city with rail and air traffic as well as road transport badly disrupted, following water-logging in several places.
At least three persons were killed so far in different incidents of electrocution, wall collapse since yesterday when the city witnessed its first showers this weekend.
The monsoon struck the city ahead of schedule and the Municipal Corporation is once again "taking a nap", with several areas facing water logging despite claims by the local administration that it was fully geared to beat any eventuality.
Municipal commissioner Jairaj Pathak told reporters that the civic body has made all possible preparations for the monsoon but heavy rains and high tide caused the water logging.
He said during the monsoon on a average a city gets over 40 mm of rainfall daily. However, the city received 161 mm in the first rains yesterday due to which water logging took place.
Services on the rail lines were affected for the second day though there was no total stopping of the services, railway police said.
As it was a weekend many offices and schools were closed.
