The death toll in the hepatitis-hit Sabarkantha on Saturday climbed to 56 with three more deaths reported from Modasa, the worst affected area.
“Three more deaths have been reported today. With this the total number of deaths due to hepatitis has reached 56. One more case was admitted today,” Sabarkantha chief district health officer Dr HS Patel told PTI.
“Out of the three who passed away today, one died in civil hospital in Ahmedabad, while the other two at Sarvajanik hospital at Modasa,” Patel said, adding that all the three deceased belonged to Modasa.
Meanwhile, Dr Govind Patel and his son Chintan, who were charged with culpable homicide continued to evade arrest.
The Modasa town police said they are yet to be arrested, while their clinic has been sealed and samples were collected from their clinic premises.
Health department continued to raid scrap dealers and private clinics across the state.
In Bharuch, the health authorities served show cause notices to three doctors running private hospitals and warned four others for not adhering to the norms of safe medical practices and bio-medical waste disposal.
