Developed by a team of 12 seasoned ayurvedic experts at the college on Allahabad-Varanasi road, the formula includes an anti-swine flue ayurvedic tea, immune boosters and an ayurvedic fogging agent, to combat the H1N1 virus, malaria, japanese encephalitis and dengue fever.

The college sent a proposal to initiate a trial of three-tier weapon at the grass root level to the Central government two months ago.

"We have developed a three-tier programme to control swine flu and other vector borne viral disease such as malaria, Japanese encephalitis and dengue fever," said Prof G.S. Tomar, head at department of Kaya Chikitsa of Government Ayurveda College.

Tomar was delivering a lecture at the Department of Rasa Shastra in the Faculty of Ayurveda here on Friday.

The first component of the three-tier weapon is an anti-swine flu tea powder. This is a combination of five herbs - guduchi, tulsi, pitt papara, bhumi amla and mulahati.

"The powder has been made to work on two counts, firstly alleviating symptoms (symptomatic treatment) and also hitting the actual virus through the strong anti-viral properties of three of five constituents of this powder," Tomar said.

Second part of the three-tier weapon is the development of an immune modulator or booster. This was prepared by combining the three herbs ashwagandha, brahmi and shatavari, which boost the immune and help patients combat the viral attack on his vital systems.

The third part of the three-tier herbal therapy - the ayurvedic fogging agent - can play a vital role in the spread of the disease among those associated or living in vicinity of the patient.

The fogging agent Dhupan Dravya was developed with a combination of 27 herbs such as guggul, raal, rai, sarson or mustard, neem, dhatura, bhilawa, saijan leaves and agaru. This combination acts as a natural mosquito repellent, thus preventing the spread of the disease.
